I’m sure you’ll find something from this fabulous release that will inspire you to create. Below are some of the ways the products have inspired me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

MATERIALS: PEN SKETCHED SILHOUETTE STAMP, ESSENTIAL SENTIMENT STRIPS DIE, ROSE GOLD EMBOSSING POWDER, PIGMA MICRON 0.3 PIGMENT INK PEN, DYE INKS TIDE BLUE AND STARLIGHT, WATERCOLOR PAPER

For this card, I stamped the floral images using Tide blue onto watercolor paper. I made sure to use a Misti so that I can go back and re-stamp the areas that need more ink. Then I inked up the edges of the petals with a darker blue and stamped it again. I took out the Pen Sketched Flower stamp set to more or less get an idea of how the petals were drawn and then used a sign pen to draw the petals loosely.

An orange cardstock was torn and embossed with rose gold embossing powder. I also added a gold strip to finish the edge of the stamped layer. I die cut 4 pieces of the Happy Birthday sentiment and adhered it on top of each other. White cardstock was swiped with the Tide Blue dye ink and used for the backing of the sentiment strip.

BE YOUR OWN KIND OF BEAUTIFUL

MATERIALS: EUCALYPTUS JAR STAMP, CARTOON ROSE STAMP, PEN SKETCHED SILHOUETTE FLOWERS STAMP, THIN FRAMES 3D DIE, PURE WHITE EMBOSSING POWDER, WATERCOLOR BRUSH MARKERS, WATERCOLOR PAPER, WOODGRAIN BARK CARDSTOCK, DISTRESS OXIDE INKS-BROKEN CHINA, TUMBLED GLASS AND PEACOCK FEATHERS

I love mixing up stamp sets. For this 3D card, I got images from the Eucalyptus Jar Stamp set, Cartoon Rose Stamp and the Pen Sketched Flowers stamp set. Only the foliage part of the Eucalyptus stamp was used to add fullness to the arrangement. The images were stamped on watercolor paper using Versmark Ink then embossed with Pure White Embossing Powder. Watercolor brush markers were used to color the images.

The background was colored using a distress tool and distress inks to create an ombre effect. Spatters of water was added for texture. The images were die cut and arranged in one corner while the sentiment was stamped on white cardstock and adhered with foam squares on the opposite side. The thin frame 3D die was pretty easy to assemble and I used the Altenew Woodgrain Bark cardstock to mimic a wooden frame.

HANG IN THERE

MATERIALS: CARTOON ROSE STAMP, ESSENTIAL SENTIMENT STRIPS DIE, SUMMER GARDEN PAPER PACK, ROSE GOLD EMBOSSING POWDER, MFT STITCHED RECTANGLE STAX DIE, VERSAMARK INK, FOAM SHEETS, WATERCOLOR BRUSH MARKERS- SWEET LEAF, ESPRESSO, LIMEADE, SEA BREEZE, WATERCOLOR PAPER

Here’s a simple and quick card to make. Instead of layering the stamp set, I stamped the outline image onto patterned paper using Versamark Ink. I just made sure to choose the area of the paper where there were interesting watercolored patterns. For the leaves, I stamped the images onto watercolor paper then embossed using Rose Gold embossing powder. They were then colored using the watecolor brush markers. I die cut white cardstock using the MFT stitched rectangle stax die.

This was glued to a hot pink A2 top folding cardstock. The floral and leaf elements were arranged and glued. Then I placed the rectangular die on top making sure it fits right on top of the rectangular die cut and ran it through the die cutting machine again. This part was backed with a foam sheet to add dimension to the card front. The sentiment strip was die cut 4 times and adhered on top of each other. I just painted a strip of watercolor paper to match the leaves then used it for the backing of the sentiment.

GRATEFUL FOR YOU, MY FRIEND

MATERIALS: STRIPED CIRCLE STAMP, EUCALYPTUS JAR STAMP, PEN SKETCHED SILHOUETTE STAMP, EMBOSSING POWDERS-CARIBBEAN SKY, ROSE GOLD AND PURE WHITE, FOAM SQUARES

Here’s a simple card to make. Purple cardstock was stamped using the Striped circle stamp set and Versamark Ink. This was then embossed using the Caribbean Sky embossing powder. The floral images from the Pen Sketched Silhouette stamp were stamped on Neenah Solar White cardstock then embossed using Rose Gold Embossing powder.

The sentiment was stamped on navy blue cardstock and embossed using Pure White Embossing powder. The elements were then arranged on the card front using foam squares for added dimension.

SENTIMENTS FROM BETTER TOGETHER 2

MATERIALS: BEAUTIFUL BERGENIA EMBOSSING FOLDER, BETTER TOGETHER 2 STAMP, DYE INKS, DYE INKS-WISTERIA, MOUNTAIN MIST, MINTY MINT, OBSIDIAN PIGMENT INK. MFT A2 RECTANGLE STAX DIE

I learned this technique from my all-time favorite papercraft guru, Jennifer Mcguire in 2014 and then again recently but didn’t really give it a try. Here’s a link to one of her videos doing this technique. When my Altenew orders arrive which included this beautiful Bergenia 3D embossing folder, I had to try our her technique and I was not disappointed! I wanted these set of cards to be sweet so I made sure to use only pastel colors. It’s a pretty easy technique that gives wonderful results. You just have to add ink to the flat surfaces on one side of the embossing folder (the parts that are the background… not the embossed parts) and run this through the die cutting machine. Another tip I learned from Tim Holtz was to spray the paper on both sides with water before embossing to prevent the paper from tearing.

Take note that for all the cards, I had to die cut the window first before embossing. There are so many uplifting sentiments on the Better Together 2 stamp set that I had to create more backgrounds for them.

For this card, I die cut the circle first, inked up the embossing folder then embossed the paper. I stamped the sentiment on vellum using Rose gold embossing powder. The embossed flowers and leaves are just so beautiful!!! Make sure to use a thicker cardstock to prevent the paper from tearing up.

For this card, I did the same procedure then used an embossed image from the Pen Sketched Flowers stamp for added layering.

CHOOSE KINDNESS

MATERIALS: EUCALYPTUS JAR STAMP AND DIE, CIRCLE QUILT COVER DIE, WATERCOLOR PAPER, ROSE GOLD EMBOSSING POWDER, WATERCOLOR BRUSH MAKERS LAGOON, PERSIAN BLUE, ESPRESSO, SWEET LEAF, LIME

Unexpected kindness is the most powerful, least costly, and most underrated agent of human change.”

I’d like to share with you a personal story that has inspired me so much. Here in my country, because we are in general community quarantine, I heavily rely on courier services to pick up food, groceries etc. or to deliver or pick up packages for me. One day, I asked the rider to pick up something I ordered from a place an hour away from me. It took him 30 minutes to find it then waited another 30 minutes because my order was misplaced and couldn’t be found. Traffic was bad so by the time he reached my house, it was over 3 hours and way past lunchtime. I was so grateful that he just didn’t give up and cancel the pick-up. He made an effort to look for the place, wait for my order and brave the traffic. So in gratitude, I ordered a lunch meal good for 4 people so that he has something to eat and bring home to his family. The rider thanked me profusely for this little act of kindness but what blew me away was when I read a text he sent me a couple of hours later saying that on his way home, he saw a homeless family and shared what he had with them. He didn’t have much, yet he found it in his heart to share what he had to those in need. What a compassionate and selfless person! Now, more than ever, do we need to show kindness to others. Hopefully, this card will be a reminder for us to always be kind especially to those who need it most.

I used the beautiful Eucalyptus Jar stamp set and did no-line watercoloring. I lightly stamped the image using Antique Linen distress ink then painted the image using the watercolor brush markers. I used the Circle quilt cover die for added texture to the background. The sentiment was embossed on vellum then the strip was wrapped around the jar.

Altenew Build-A-Flower: Hawaiian Coral Release Blog Hop

Altenew Build-A-Flower: Hawaiian Coral Release Blog Hop

Welcome to my blog, crafty friends! If you have just visited Keisha Charles, then you are on the right track. Today, we share with you the latest from the Build-a-flower family: the Hawaiian Coral.

This stamp set can be layered or the outline stamp can be used alone. Below are card samples using the BAF: Hawaiian Coral.

MAKE A WISH

MATERIALS: BAF: HAWAIIAN CORAL, FINE FRAMES COVER DIE, WATERCOLOR BRUSH MARKERS PERSIAN BLUE AND PURPLE WINE, ROSE GOLD EMBOSSING POWDER, PURE WHITE EMBOSSING POWDER, BUTTERCREAM CRISP DYE INK, SENTIMENT STRIPS STAMP, VERSAMARK INK, FABER-CASTELL POLYCHROMOS COLORED PENCILS, NEENAH SOLAR WHITE

I created a no-line watercolored card here using the masking technique so that I can layer the flowers on top of each other. After watercoloring the petals using different concentrations of the Persian blue and the purple wine, I added deeper shades using colored pencils.

I wanted to add some dimension to this card so I die cut the painted piece and mounted it on a foam sheet. The edges of the card front were painted using the leftover paints on my palette then the painted layers were adhered to the card front using glue. The sentiment was stamped using Versamark ink then embossed with Pure White embossing powder. Lastly, I added a rose gold embossed frame to finish the card.

YOU ARE JUST ABSOLUTELY AMAZING

MATERIALS: ALTENEW-BAF HAWAIIAN CORAL, ARTIST MARKERS SET D, DYE INKS FRAYED LEAF, FOREST GLADES EVERGREEN , ROSE GOLD EMBOSSING POWDER , NEENAH SOLAR WHITE CS

He’s a similar layout using artist markers instead of watercolor. The outline image was embossed using Rose Gold Embossing powder. A die-cut was used to cut out part of the image and this was colored using artist markers R601, R603 and R614. I still have so much to learn on how to color using alcohol markers. Need to practice!!!

Altenew Paint-A-Flower: Sunflower and Woodless Watercolor Pencil Release Blog Hop

Altenew Paint-A-Flower: Sunflower and Woodless Watercolor Pencil Release Blog Hop

Welcome to Altenew Paint-A-Flower: Sunflower Release Blog Hop! Thank you, MARYAM PEREZ for sending them over. For the full details of the blog hop, please make sure to drop by the Altenew blog. Take a look at this lovely Paint-A-Flower: Sunflower stamp set and the Woodless Watercolor Pencil set!

Aren’t the colors so vibrant?! You can use them like colored pencils or activate them with water for a watercolored look. Below are some samples of how I used these two products. Hopefully, these will inspire you to create your own watercolored artwork. 😊

CHOOSE HAPPY

MATERIALS: Paint-A-Flower: Sunflower, Woodless Watercolor Pencils, Altenew watercolor brush markers, Karin brushmarkers Pro, Faber Castell colored pencils, Rose Gold Embossing Powder,https://altenew.com/products/rose-gold-crisp-embossing-powder Foam sheets, Altenew Watecolor Paper

For this first card, I thought of creating a no-line watercolored card. No-line watercoloring took much longer to create than watercoloring an embossed image. It took me hours to finish this card– partly because my eyesight is not as good as before 🙁

It’s such an intricate image to color. Aside from watercolor, I used watercolor brush markers and colored pencils for more definition of the petals. I used Desert Night for the background to make the stamped image pop. The edge of the card was embossed with Rose Gold embossing powder to add a border.

YOU ARE MY HAPPY

MATERIALS: PAINT-A-FLOWER: SUNFLOWER, ROSE GOLD EMBOSSING POWDER, FINE FRAMES COVER DIE, YUPO PAPER, ALCOHOL INKS, PURE WHITE EMBOSSING POWDER

If the first card took hours to make, this one took less than 10 minutes. I was cleaning a foam tip tool that I used for an alcohol ink project by rolling it on yupo paper and this pattern appeared. I liked it a lot so I decided to cover the entire paper with this pattern.

I then stamped the image using Versamark Ink then embossed with Pure White Embossing Powder. The sentiment was stamped on vellum then embossed with Rose Gold Embossing Powder. I used the Fine Frames cover die to cut out the frame using a light blue cardstock. The card was assembled using foam sheets for added dimension. Quick and easy!

I was so inspired by the video tutorial of how to create easy watercolor stamping from my uber-talented friend Amber Davis. She has tons of amazing techniques to share on her blog so make sure the check it out. I didn’t waste time and tried out her technique right away. I loved how easy it was to do and ended up making 4 cards.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY/YOU ARE SO KIND

MATERIALS: PAINT A FLOWER: SUNFLOWER, WOODLESS WATERCOLOR PENCILS, ESSENTIAL SENTIMENT STRIPS DIE, ALTENEW WATERCOLOR PAPER, ROSE GOLD EMBOSSING POWDER

For these cards, I used the woodless watercolor pencils. I simply wet the pencil with a watercolor brush then added the pigments directly to the stamp. I made sure to use a Misti so that I can go back and stamp the portions that did not have a good imprint of. Key here is not to use a lot of water so that you will still see the outline of the stamp set. I added darker shades of orange and some browns to the center of the flowers. I love this watercolored look! It reminded me of a batik painting I did many many years ago.

Splatters were also added after the stamped images were dry. The edges of the watercolor panel were then embossed using rose gold embossing powder. The sentiments were die cut 5 times then stacked on top of each other for dimension. This was then tied to the card front using twine. Make sure to try this out… I’m sure you will love the outcome of your cards.

HERE FOR YOU

Here’s another set of cards using the same technique only using different colors this time. I used the following woodless watercolor pencils-Moutain Mist, Dew Drops, Turquoise and Lavender Fields.

HANG IN THERE

For the fourth card, I watercolored the background using the woodless watercolor pencils then after drying the panel, I stamped the image using only one watercolor. Another option is to emboss the image using either white embossing powder or gold.

Altenew July 2020 Stamps/ Dies/Stencils/ Inks Release

Altenew July 2020 Stamps/ Dies/Stencils/ Inks Release

Hello everyone!!! Altenew has a wonderful July release and I made a couple of cards to showcase this new release. Take a look at these gorgeous products!!!

https://altenew.com/collections/new/products/summer-fun-full-release-bundle

I read all your comments on my blog and truly appreciate your kind words. I’ve noticed that there are quite a number of people who are new to cardmaking so this blog post will be a mixture of simple, fun and easy to make cards/tags and some that need a little more time to create. Do let me know which one is your favorite in the comment section, ok? I really love hearing from all of you. <3

WHATEVER YOU ARE, BE A GOOD ONE | YOU ARE GREAT

Don’t you just adore the Courageous You stamp set!?!?! I love huge images that can be colored using different kinds of coloring mediums. For these cards though, I thought of stamping and embossing the image on vellum for a soft and dainty look. I used the Fine Frames cover die to add borders around the card front. Light colors were chosen to match the soft look of this card.

When embossing on thin papers like vellum, just make sure that you heat up your heat gun first. I also heat it from the back to prevent the paper from warping.

THINKING OF YOU | WITH GRATITUDE

Here’s another set of CAS cards using the Geometric Elements stamp. When I saw this stamp set, the first thing that came into my mind was the geometric terrariums that I used for my daughter’s party a few years ago. 🙂

I used the stems on the Fragile Foliage Stamp set as strings for these “terrariums”. My youngest daughter Andrea helped me with the drawings of the mini succulents ( I will need a magnifying glass in order to do that!!! Thanks so much, Dea! <3 ) The succulents were colored with the Altenew alcohol artist markers. Strips of papers from the Blushing Blooms paper pack were added to finish off these cute and simple cards. The card front was also mounted onto foam sheets for added dimension.

YOU ARE WORTHY

This next card was created using the Floral In and Out Border die, the Wild Flora washi tape, the Terrific Tags die and the sentiment from the Courageous You stamp set. I wrapped a panel with the washi tape then die cut the Floral in and out border die. I did the same to 4 layers of white cardstocks so that I can stack them up to create some dimension.

I just had to fit them like a jigsaw puzzle then added a sentiment stamped on one of the tags from the Terrific tags die. A green brad was added as an accent to this simple card. You really don’t have to do much because the washi tape is already so beautiful.

HUGS

Here’s another pair of quick cards to make. I got some paper scraps from the Shades of Purple gradient cardstock set and cut them into strips. My apologies if I can’t remember who I saw this technique from– must be from the amazing Laura Bassen or Jennifer Mcguire or maybe even from Kristina Werner or the wonderful Cathy Zielske. They are my go-to cardmakers where I get my inspirations from.

I covered the entire card front with double-sided tape then adhered the strips. Both positive and negative elements from the Circled Greetings: hugs die were used to create 2 cards so nothing went to waste.

SOME DAYS YOU JUST HAVE TO CREATE YOUR OWN SUNSHINE

Would you believe that this card was made using only 1 stamped image? 🙂 The sentiment was stamped and heat embossed on vellum. The floral image from the Courageous You stamp set was stamped on 140 lbs Arches watercolor paper using Versamark ink then heat embossed with Rose gold embossing powder. I used colors from the Altenew watercolor brush makers. I love how highly pigmented these watercolors are! A little goes a long way.

The image was placed in one corner and the excess was cut off. Foam tape was used to create dimension. The leftover pieces were also adhered to the card front to fill the other edges of the card.

THANKS

Here’s another set of CAS cards using bold colors. I die cut 3 different colored cardstocks using the Circled Greetings: thanks die. To vary the background, I placed the Feeling Dotty Stencil over the background then added Versamark ink over it.

White embossing ink was poured over it and heat embossed to create a dotted background. I also added a sentiment from the Hello and Hugs stamp set for variation. This is a quick way to create multiple cards with a single die– just vary the cardstocks and backgrounds.

THANK YOU TAG

Here’s another quick project using the masking technique. For these tags, I used the sentiments from the Geometric Elements and the Fragile Foliage image. The biggest tag from the Terrific Tags dies was perfect to make the packaging for the monogram cards I made for a friend look pretty. I love the simplicity of the image which ties up with the modernity of the font.

The sentiment and border were stamped and embossed first using rose gold embossing powder. Then I masked the area so that I can stamp the foliage image over it.

If you have been following my previous blog posts, you’ll notice that my style leans heavily towards layering and lots of embellishments. Restraining myself from adding more to a card is truly a struggle for me. I have a hard time creating clean and simple cards because I tend to cover up all of the white space. That being said, I’ve always been a huge fan of Cathy Zielske‘s CAS style ever since my scrapbooking days in the early 2000s. From her, I’ve learned the basics in design principles. She’s my rockstar when it comes to CAS layouts and cards. And just recently, she sent me a video message full of sound advice on how to deal with certain types of people. I am so humbled that she took time out of her busy schedule to personally send a message and make me feel better. So in honor of this amazing human being, this post showcases a number of CAS cards and from this post onwards, I will step out of my comfort zone and try to include a card that reflects her style. Thank you, Cathy! Truly appreciate what you did. ❤️ Below is a set of CAS cards inspired by her style using the Fragile Foliage stamp set.

I’VE BEEN THINKING OF YOU|THANKS FOR EVERYTHING

The image from the Fragile Foliage image was stamped on a rectangular die cut cardstock. This was adhered on the card front using a foam sheet. Golden peach and Caribbean sky embossing powders were used to emboss the sentiments from the Sentiment Strips stamp set.

Thank you so much for dropping by!!! As I’ve said earlier, I truly enjoy reading all your wonderful comments. Do say hi and let me know which card is your favorite! Would love to see you too in my other social media platforms. To see my latest projects, you can follow me on Instagram and Facebook . Thanks again for dropping by and keep on crafting!!!

Altenew + The Daily Marker Watercolor Therapy Blog Hop & Giveaway

Altenew + The Daily Marker Watercolor Therapy Blog Hop & Giveaway

Hello everyone! So happy to have you over at my blog. Thanks so much Mindy for sending them over. To view the entire list, you can go to the Altenew Card Blog or view the list at the end of this blog post.

Altenew is collaborating with the amazing Kathy Racoosin from The Daily Marker to inspire crafters to find joy through coloring. Kathy is celebrating her 16th 30 Day Coloring Challenge until 5/7/2020. You can still join the fun and participate in the 30 Day Coloring Challenge by coloring something and share it on social media using the hashtag #TheDailyMarker30Day. You deserve some “me time” and hope you’ll enjoy the benefits that coloring will give.

We are currently in times of uncertainty. Worries and doubts tend to fill my mind. But a dear friend of mine, TM, reminded me about this: “Worry will just fuel more worries but it’s not reality. Live in the moment first of gracious gratefulness.” Isn’t it beautiful??? Now is the time to focus on what we should be grateful for and one thing for me is art therapy– specifically through watercoloring. For some, it may be journaling, and for others it might be collage work, sketching or painting. The techniques used in a creative process tend to improve the mental, physical and emotional well-being of a person so I encourage you to be creative! Below are some card samples I made using watercolor as the coloring medium.

YOU MATTER

The color blue is a soothing color and can help calm the mind. Add a bunch of palm leaves and voila! You have a card that calms the soul. I’m replicating a technique of creating freehand backgrounds taught by Debbie Huges in one of the Online Card classes I recently took. First, I created the background by watercoloring two sheets of Arches cold press watercolor using a mixture of blues teals and spatters of black. One paper had lighter shades while the other had darker ones. This was then die cut using the Ornate background die. 4 more cardstocks were die cut and adhered on top of each other to create some depth.

The Parlor palm die set was used to die cut different shades of cardstock from the Sea Shore cardstock pack. The sentiment from the Ornamental Bliss stamp set was stamped using Versa Mark Ink then embossed with pure white embossing powder. The card front was assembled and adhered onto an A2 side folding brown card base.

THINKING OF YOU

I wanted to create a card that was not my usual choice of colors. For this card, I used the Bold Floral Drapes stamp set and the Ornamental Bliss stamp set for the sentiment. The Sea Shore dye ink was used for the background. Using a Misti, I stamped the background several times because the watercolor paper was rough. I let it dry using a heat tool then covered the stamp with Versamark Ink. The background was then embossed. This will seal the background so that I can easily watercolor the flowers and leaves.

At this point, I wasn’t sure if I should go ahead and finish the card because the background turned out to be too dark for me. I decided to finish the card to see the outcome. Oranges and yellows were taken from the Altenew Brushmarker sets. I started coloring the flowers using the lightest shade of yellow then allowed it to dry. I then layered a darker shade of orange. The same steps were done for the leaves. The sentiment was stamped using Versamark Ink then embossed with pure white embossing powder. I added an enamel dot to tie-up the sentiment with the card. Next time I’ll probably use watercolor for the background as well.

MAKE A WISH/YOU’RE IN MY HEART

For the next two cards, I used the image from the Precious Peony Stamp set. the images were stamped on Arches 140lb watercolor paper then embossed using white embossing powder.

The flowers were then watercolored using the brush markers. For the Make a Wish card, I added the Golden Strokes washi tape on the left side of the card for more contrast. The center was die cut using the rounded rectangle die set then I adhered a portion of the Circle Quit cover die for added texture. This panel was mounted on foam sheets for height.

For the You’re In My Heart card, I made a similar card recently using this technique. The backround panel was covered with Sea Shore washi tapes making sure to leave some parts of the white cardstock uncovered.

The Dotted Starbust debossing die was used to add some texture to the card front. I added an orange strip across the card to anchor the sentiment and at the same time give some contrast to the card.
