Altenew: A Year In Review Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hi everyone!!! I’m so thrilled to be a part of this Altenew year-end blog hop. Thank you so much, Ashlea Cornell, for sending them over here. 💜 We were asked to choose our top 4 favorite projects from 2019 and honestly, it was quite difficult to narrow it down to 4! I’m so grateful to be one of Altenew’s guest designers this year and because of this, I was able to create a lot of cards and a couple of layouts <3 Here are my top 4 projects:

It was an amazingly creative year filled with so much inspiration from all the talented designers and guest designers. If you start with a product that’s already so beautiful, you get so motivated to create and play with it.

I love this card because of this gorgeous Dainty Blooms cover die. You can also make two cards with one die cut by using both the positive and the negative pieces.

This is what I call my yin and yang cards– one card is elaborate while the other card is clean and simple. ❤️ Here I used the Angelique Motifs stamp and die sets and the Mega Alphabet die to create this monogram card.

This is on my top 4 list because I truly enjoyed painting the Inked rosebud for this card. It was small enough not to get overwhelmed in painting it and somehow, I managed to make it look 3D. 😊 I already had this bouquet design in my mind the minute I saw the stamp set. 🙂

I haven’t done a scrapbook page in ages!!! These are my love letters to my children. Special photos inspire me to document a moment and when I saw these photos of my daughter and her cousin, I knew I had to create a layout using Altenew stamps, dies and stencils as embellishments. The layout was inspired by a PageMaps sketch. I used the Weekend Doodles and Ornate Foliage stamp and die sets, Mandala die and the Broken Chevron Stencil.

This will be my last post for 2019 and I’d like to share with you some cards I recently created for a Christmas card swap of My Little Attic Studio. Here are the cards that I made for my swap mate, Jen.

I used non-traditional colors for this Christmas card. This was the first time I played with the Antique Roses Stamp set and I immediately fell in love with it! The Sting Art Rectangle Die was used to create a window for this card.

5 layers of the Fine Frames Cover Die were used to cover the holes of the string art die and embossed with rose gold embossing powder. The flowers and leaves were stamped using Altenew dye inks.

Here are some CAS cards using the Ornate Foliage stamp set and the Bountiful Branch stamp set. A lot of white space was left for these clean and simple cards and I used a combination of oranges and teal green for this set.

I thought of including some non-Christmas themed cards for the recipient using the Calming Bouquet washi tape. I just love how easy it is to embellish a card or scrapbook page using this washi tape.

Rose gold embossing powder was added to the edge of the monogram letter for some subtle shine. The washi cut-outs were popped up using foam squares to add dimension to the cards.

Altenew Metallic Watercolor 14 Pan Set Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello everyone!!! If you are following the hop, then you’ve just come from the blog of Zinia Redo. Thanks for guiding them over, Zinia! <3 So excited to share with you another new release of Altenew– the Metallic Watercolor 14 Pan Set!!!

Take a look at these gorgeous metallic colors!!! You can paint directly or add to your other Altenew watercolors and by doing so, your stamped image catches the light and reflects it to achieve a shimmery look. Take a look at some of the samples I made using this metallic watercolor set.

FRIEND WHAT WOULD I DO WITHOUT YOU CARD

MATERIALS:

For this card, I chose to do a no-line watercolored card. All the images were stamped on watercolor paper using Antique Linen distress ink then colored using Altenew’s watercolor brush markers. I chose 3 colors to work with. Make sure that the colors are analogous so that they will blend nicely. Line up the 3 colors on your palette. Color one petal entirely then pick up another color and drop it on the wet colored petal. Allow the colors to blend. You can also mix two colors to create a fourth color. Dry the petal before starting the next or just skip the petal next to it and paint another petal using a different color. The key here is to make sure that the petals next to each other are colored differently. I just used the metallic watercolor as a glaze over existing dry colors to add a bit of shimmer. The flowers were dried then I carefully added in some rose gold from the metallic watercolor as a subtle wash with minimal water so that the details of the flowers will not disappear. After, the images were fussy cut. I die cut the frame from the Crystal Frames stamp set then proceeded to create a geode for the sentiment. I got this idea from one of Danielle Donaldson’s watercolor classes. The lightest watercolor wash was used to color the entire paper. Next, I chose a darker shade then colored the paper leaving a little bit of the 1st layer seen around the edges. I continued layering a darker color and leaving an irregular edge of the previous color untouched. The center was the darkest color. I interchanged blues with purples and pinks. I made sure to add some gold metallic watercolor to the mix to give it some shine. The sentiment was stamped using Versamark Ink then embossed with Rose Gold embossing powder then adhered to the card front with foam squares. I made sure to leave a lot of white space to give more emphasis to the flowers and sentiment. The Fine frame was watercolored with the metallic watercolor as well.

TO THE MOST WONDERFUL FRIEND CARD

MATERIALS:

I’ve made a similar card like this before but wanted to share it again using the Metallic Watercolor. I love the design of the Needlework Motif stamps set and thought it would look good against black cardstock. The image was stamped using Versamark Ink then embossed with Rose Gold embossing powder. The image was then colored in using the metallic watercolor set. You can also choose complementary colors for more contrast. When it was dry, I went in a second to add a 2nd layer of paint.

The image was then die cut using the coordinating die. 4 more die cuts were added then glued on top of each other for added dimension. The Moroccan Mosaic cover die was used to cut black cardstock then layered on top of a gold cardstock to create the cardfront. The sentiment was stamped using Versamark Ink then embossed with Rose gold embossing powder.

PRAYING FOR YOU CARD

MATERIALS:

Since I had leftover flowers from the first card, ( I always like making more embellishments that what I need 😊) I created this double gatefold card– and idea I got from Jennifer Mcguire. To look at how she did them, click here. The card was assembled to create a double folded card front. The feeling dotty stencil was used with a embossing paste tinted with Mountain Mist brush watercolor to add some texture to the card. The hand-cut watercolored flowers were then arranged in front . When I was happy with the arrangement, Press ‘n Seal was placed on top of the arrangement to pick up all the flowers. Adhesive was carefully placed at the back of the flowers making sure no adhesive was added on parts of the flowers/leaves that were crossing over the middle/opening of the card. The sentiment was stamped on black cardstock then embossed with rose gold embossing powder and adhered to the card front using foam squares. This is how it looks when you open the card.

I added a purple cardstock cut out using the Nesting labels die and added the leftover watercolored flowers for more interest when the card is opened.

I just love how the metallic watercolor added some subtle shimmer on certain areas of the the petals and leaves. ❤️

ALTENEW BUILD-A-FLOWER: FUCHSIA

Hi everyone! Welcome to Altenew’s Build-a Flower: Fuschia release! You have arrived from the blog of the amazing EMILY MIDGETT. BUILD A FLOWER: FUCHSIA

Below are 2 samples of cards I made for this stamp set using the stamp layering technique and the no line watercolor technique.

SMILE BIG CARD

MATERIALS:

I decided not to use the stems for this flower and just use the flowers, buds and leaves to create a focal point. The mid-century frame die was used to create a frame using white cardstock. Two of them were layered to add more rays. The flowers were then stamped using the different layers then the flowers were arranged using adhesive and foam tape for dimension.

I always die cut scratch paper to act as a template when lining up the die with the stamped image to make sure the white outline around the image is uniform.

The sentiment from the Circled Sentiments was stamped using the Obsidian pigment ink then embossed with clear embossing powder.

CONGRATULATIONS CARD

MATERIALS:

I had a booboo 🙁 After carefully stamping and masking my card front, I didn’t realize that the magnet of my Misti somehow had ink underneath it so when I lifted it from the card front, this was what I saw. 🙁

So instead of starting all over again with stamping and masking, I just decide to cover up the area with a watercolored sentiment strip. 🙂

I chose to make a simple no-line coloring card front by stamping the images using Distress Ink Antique Linen then colored them in with Altenew’s watercolor brush markers. A few of the flowers were stamped then the rest of the cardfront was filled with leaves. The stems were painted freehand after stamping the leaves randomly. The flower was masked so that I could layer one on top of the other.

I also inked the edges of the card front and sentiment strip with Versmark Ink and then heat embossed with Rose Gold embossing powder to add a touch of shimmer at the edges of the card.

Since I had extra flowers and leaves, I decided to fussy cut them and adhere them to the card front with foam tape for better balance and to add more dimension.

Welcome to my blog, everyone! I’VE BEEN THINKING OF YOU CARD

The Flower Garden is a beautiful stamp set that is so versatile. You can use different coloring materials to add life to the images or you can simply stamp the outline and create subtle, clean, feminine, and elegant cards.

MATERIALS:

For my first card, I stamped the different images of the Flower Garden stamp set all at the same time using the Misti stamping tool on a 4″ x 5.25″ pink cardstock using Versamark Ink then embossed with Altenew crisp white embossing powder. Edges were distressed using the paper distresser. White and pink cardstocks were trimmed to 2.25″ x 4″ panels and vellum was cut to 2.5″ x 4.25″. The Pressed leaf die was used to die cut both the vellum and the pink cardstock then glued on top of the white cardstock. The sentiment was stamped onto the pink CS and embossed using white embossing powder. Foam adhesives were used to create dimension. All the layers were mounted on a 5.5″ x 4.25″ white top folding CS.

U MAKE ME SO HAPPY & U ARE ALL KINDS OF WONDERFUL CARDS

MATERIALS:

The Faceted Stars stamp was stamped onto 2 watercolor papers using Versamark ink then embossed with rose gold embossing powder. Midnight violet and turquoise watercolor brush markers were used to color in certain areas of 1 embossed image. I made sure some triangles were darker than the others for added dimension. Coloring these patterns was so calming and addicting!!! 🙂

The other was left uncolored. The alpha mega die letter U was then used to die cut these embossed panels and the letters were switched for high contrast. Additional letter U was die cut from plain CS and layered to add more dimension. Sentiments were stamped on coordinating watercolored strips and adhered using foam squares.

MISS YOU CARD

MATERIALS:

I have been a big fan and get so much inspiration from amazing artists like Tae Eun and Jaycee Gaspar who both have superb coloring skills. Since alcohol markers are NOT my go-to coloring materials, I wanted to step outside my comfort zone and try them out this time. I first stamped the images onto white cardstock using Antique Linen distress ink for no-line coloring. After 30 minutes of coloring, I was ready to throw it out of the window!!! 😂 I started to lose details of the flower and it looked flat. Then I remembered Jaycee mentioning that he started out with the darkest color to mark where the shadows should be. So I colored using the darkest, then lighest then mid-tone alcohol markers and used the colored pencils after to add more detail. I also realized that you need a TON of patience cause this kind of coloring takes a lot of hours to finish especially for beginners like me. I just have to keep on practising until I’m comfortable with this method of coloring. 😊 Although I’m not too happy with how it turned out, I will still share this card with all of you. Any tips will be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much for the inspiration, Jaycee❤️

I used the gold string washi tape and a strip of gold cardstock to create borders for the card. The circle quilt cover die was used to cut 4 sheets of cardstock and stacked them on top of each other with adhesive to add dimension. The sentiment from the Garden Silhouette was stamped onto white CS using Versamark ink then heat embossed with rose gold embossing powder. Flowers were arranged then Press’n Seal was used to pick up all the diecuts and these were adhered using glue or foam squares.

FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS ETC CHRISTMAS CARDS

MATERIALS:

I wanted to get an early start with my Christmas cards and the Modern Poinsettia made it easy. Because this will be mass-produced, I chose a simple card to replicate and just changed the color of the cardstocks.

The cardstocks were cut to 4″ x 5.25″. The flower was stamped using Versamark Ink then embossed with different embossing powders depending on the color that will match the cardstock. The image was covered with the mask then a second flower was stamped and embossed. Most often than not, there will be some blank space between the 2 stamped images where they overlap so I used the Zig embossing fine pen to draw the lines then embossed it once more. One more flower image was stamped and embossed followed by the sentiment. I couldn’t find my Altenew Fine Frames cover die 😥 so I just used 2 rectangle stax dies to die cut the matching cardstock to create a frame just to add more interest to the card front.

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARD

MATERIALS:

For this last card, I wanted to incorporate a number of Altenew stamps and dies. I used the flowers and leaves from the Happy Pomegranates Stamp set. I stamped these images on watercolor paper using Versamark Ink then embossed with Rose Gold embossing powder. For the flowers, I used the following watercolor brush markers– Midnight violet, Rubellite, Persian Blue and Purple Wine. For the leaves, I used the following: Turquoise, Sea Breeze, Lime, Limeade and Emerald. With these colors, I made a wash for my letter dies. The Layered Snowflakes Stars Cover dies A and B were used to cut out 2 panels. These were adhered onto a blue top folding A2 card.

The leaves and flowers were die cut and arranged at the bottom of the card. Adhesive and foam squares were used to give some dimension. The HAPPY letters were then die cut using the watercolor wash and 4 layers of plain cardstock then adhered on top of each other to create thickness. Happy Birthday sentiment was stamped using Versamark Ink then embossed with Rose Gold embossing powder.

Altenew August 2019 Stamp/Die/Stencil Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Welcome to Altenew’s August Release!! I’m so thrilled to be a part of this blog hop consisting of 34 blogs with all the wonderful card designers I admire! ALTENEW AUGUST 2019 RELEASE COLLECTION

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARD

MATERIALS:

The first thing you have to do to create a card like this is to figure out the colors you want to use. I suggest you choose 3-5 colors only. I decided to go with high contrasting colors for some added pop. 🙂 Next, I made a rough sketch of how I wanted the design keeping in mind the die designs available. I spent some time die-cutting the different images with different colored cardstocks. It does take time but it’s better to have a lot of colors for each die-cut image to make the process of laying out the design much faster. Make sure to use foam squares when adhering some of the parts for added dimension.

SENDING LOVE AND HUGS CARD

MATERIALS:

Here’s a second card using the Polish Paper Cuts 3D die once again but this time I used them on dark cardstock. The leaves created side borders. This is why it’s important to do all the die-cutting at once. It will make the designing much easier. 🙂 Again, foam squares were used to add dimension to the card.

A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR YOU CARD

MATERIALS:

After 2 detail-intensive cards, I wanted to relax a bit and create some CAS cards. Almost always, I try to find use from the leftovers. I loved the negative pattern that the leaf dies created so I adhered it on top of the grey cardstock. A circle die cut was made using the Halftone Circles Nesting die then fine circle frames were created out of the pink cardstock using the Fine Lines Circle die.

The detailed leaf from the Beautiful Day stamp set was stamped using Versamark Ink and embossed with pure white embossing ink. I love that the sentiment from the Wavy Rose Stamp set combines cursive and block writing. This was stamped on navy blue cardstock using Versamark ink and embossed again with the white embossing powder. The edge of the sentiment strip was torn to give some texture. 3 pink dots were placed on the lower left side of the sentiment strip to counterbalance the bold and heavy YOU.

THANK YOU CARD

MATERIALS:

Here’s another CAS card. The leaf images from the Dot Art stamp set were stamped onto a navy blue cardstock to cover the entire card front using Versamark ink then embossed with white embossing powder. This was the first time for me to try out the Obsidian pigment ink and I’m in love with it!!! You only need some light tapping on the stamp set and the ink covers the entire surface! This will be my go-to black ink from now on. The sentiment and dots were stamped on white cardstock then 2 more layers of the same white cardstock were used to mat the sentiment strip. The edges of the strip were distressed using a paper distresser. The leaf die-cuts from the Rose Flurries 3D die set were added to the back of the sentiment strip to give some added interest.

I usually struggle with keeping the background clean especially on dark-coloured cardstocks. Even if I use the antistatic tool before stamping and embossing and then using a fine tip paintbrush to remove the excess powder, most often than not, there will still be excess white specks of embossing powder after you heat emboss. A sand eraser can be used to remove the specks of excess white embossing powders on the background for a cleaner, more finished look.

JUST BECAUSE CARD

MATERIALS:

I love roses especially the buds and when I saw this stamp set, I immediately knew what I wanted to create. First, I stamped several images using Antique Linen distress ink on watercolor paper a few times to get a good impression of the image. After, I used the wet on wet technique to color the petals and sepals. Since this stamp set did not come with leaves, I just watercolored my own and fussy cut them. Instead of a vase, I thought of making a small envelope using one of the Essential Rock Collection papers to hold the flowers together. I only put glue on the stems to adhere it inside the envelope so that the flowers will have more dimension. The Altenew Dainty Blooms cover die was used to cut out the image on Neenah Solar white CS and this was then glued on a top folding A2 card. The envelope was then glued onto the card front using a strong adhesive.

I chose the cursive writing of “JUST BECAUSE” to add to the feminine feel of the card and this was stamped with my new favorite Altenew Obsidian Pigment Ink. This was then embossed using Altenew Crystal Clear embossing powder. A watercolor wash was then painted to mat my sentiment.

YOU ARE ENOUGH CARD

MATERIALS:

First thing I do when I get a layered stamp set is to scan the black images onto a transparency so that I can cut them up per image.

I then stamped the first layer with the lightest color. I placed the scanned 2nd layer on top of the first and maked sure it lined up properly. I then lined up the stamp image on top of the transparency and picked it up with the misti. This process will ensure that the layers line up properly. You can also stamp on vellum if you do not have transparencies. This is an invaluable tip by Jennifer Mcguire and it is so helpful for layered stamp sets.

I almost did not finish this card. I stamped another branch from the top right corner towards the center but was not happy with the outcome. Then I encountered some problems stamping the flower itself and was ready to give up! 🙂 But instead of throwing it away, I thought of covering up the upper right side with blue cardstock and I used the Artist Marker to create my own 2nd layer design.

The flowers were burnished to curl up the petals then adhered with foam tape for dimension. I used some Wink of Stella to add some sparkle at the center of the flowers. Dark brown colored pencil was used to add more detailed shadows to the branch of the tree.

MATERIALS:

I wanted to create my own simple mandala design using the Wonderful Wycinanki stamp set so I used the Misti with the Gina K wreath builder template. I marked the center of the square cardstock and positioned one of the small images and stamped. The paper was then rotated clockwise (45″) guided by the template then stamped once more. This process was done 8 times. Then a second image was stamped using a different color until the whole square panel was filled with images.

I created some striped patterns with varying widths using post-it strips, coordinating dye inks and a distress blending tool. Crochet thread was tied around the striped panel to make a bow for added accent. The edges of the panel were distressed using the paper distresser and adhered to a side folding card with foam squares. Some of the elements were die cut using the coordinating dies and glued on top of the image to create some dimension.
