ALTENEW’S 6TH ANNIVERSARY BLOG HOP DAY 3 + GIVEAWAY

Welcome to Altenew’s blog hop Day 3!!! Right now, my country is under enhanced community quarantine that has displaced over 100k people. My heart goes out to all the front liners– doctors, nurses, residents, health care workers, police and law enforcement people, pharmacists, grocery employees, delivery guys etc– just to make sure that we survive. Aside from helping out in donations for hospital equipment and protective gear or other necessities desperately needed now, our crafting community can help in giving inspiration to all those who have to be quarantined at home. Maybe a little inspiration can keep them calm and provide some distraction and help relieve stress.

I’m thrilled and humbled to be a part of this big big giveaway to celebrate Altenew’s 6th anniversary!!! I can’t believe it has been 6 years already!!! Here are some of the cards I made for this hop.

ALWAYS THINKING OF YOU

I used the beautiful Paint a Flower Poppy stamp for this card. These flowers were stamped on watercolor paper using Versa Mark Embossing ink then embossed with Altenew pure white crisp embossing powder. The petals were then watercolored using the watercolor brush markers.

Some of the foliage from the Layered Floral Elements die were used to cut navy blue cardstock. The sentiment was stamped on the blue cardstock as well and embossed with the Rose Gold Embossing powder. I added Versamark Ink to the edges and embossed with gold embossing powder for contrast. The flowers were adhered using foam tape to create some dimension. These flowers were framed using the Navy Gold trim washi tape.

THANKS

I love when you can make two different cards by switching some elements. These were very easy to make using the Monstera 3d die set. (I’m obsessed with them!!!) These cards were inspired by Norine Borys’ card using the same die. The different directions of the leaves make them fun to arrange in a vase or pot.

I adhered the different shades from the Rose Petal washi tapes onto Neenah Solar White cardstocks then I die cut the leaves. Two watercolor papers were painted–one using pinks and violets starting at the bottom with the most concentrated watercolor and slowly fading towards the top to create an ombre effect. The other was painted with blues and a touch of purple. The Framed Thanks die was used to cut out the image from the blue watercolored paper and adhered to the pink cardfront.

I cut another thanks die on plain white cardstock for the blue card and pieced in the negative parts of the die. The leaves where then arranged using jute string and the other with a pot. The Navy Gold trim washi tape was used to add accent to the pot.

HELLO ALWAYS THINKING OF YOU

Here’s a simple card to make by using washi tapes and dies. I created a geometric background using the different shades of the Sea Shore Washi Tape. I made sure to leave some white paper showing through. I then used the Dotted Starburst debossing cover die and debossed the whole panel.

I love the subtle texture it gives on card fronts. ❤️ Notice that when you layer the washi tapes since they are translucent, you get more shades of blue when they’re taped on top of each other. The Handwritten Hello die was used to cut the word right at the center of the front panel. An additional 4 layers were cut and adhered together to add dimension. The sentiment was stamped using Rose Gold Embossing Powder on black cardstock.

DON’T LOSE HOPE BECAUSE WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN, THE STARS COME OUT

This card is so timely. The message gives us hope that things will get better. For this card, I stamped the floral images from the Precious Peony stamp set on watercolor cardstock and again on Neenah solar white cardstock without moving the stamp images. Both images were embossed using the Platinum Crisp Embossing Powder . Next, 1 inch was trimmed off on each side of the watercolored paper. The central part was then colored using the Altenew brush watercolor markers. While the flowers were still wet, I sprinkled some salt to create some pattern on the flowers. The background was colored using the Lagoon watercolor brush marker. I just love this color!

This panel was layered on top of a cardstock lined with the Gold foil .2 inch washi tape for contrast. Foam tape was mounted behind this painted panel then adhered on top of the embossed image making sure to line up the petals and leaves. This was then attached to a purple side folding card. The sentiment from the Kind Words stamp was stamped on vellum using Versa Mark embossing ink then embossed with Rose Gold embossing powder. I added 2 more layers of vellum to make the sentiment a little sturdy.

PROUD PAPI

I don’t think I’ve ever created a layout WITHOUT flowers until today. I found these photos of my husband and son tucked away in a drawer and wanted to create a simple masculine layout. Before I did anything, I visualized the layout to have 3 areas of stamped images, color and embellishments.

I used the Pattern Play -Diamond stamp set for the background embossed with white embossing powder. Watercolor brush markers were used to add colors to the background. The Fina Frames Diamonds Set was used to cut out the diamonds and these were stacked on top of each other to create dimension. The papers from Alluring Blooms and the Blushing Blooms created a base for the photos. The Fine alphabet die and the Caps bold alphabet were used for the title. The letters were either watercolored or embossed with gold embossing powder.

For the journaling, I traced the outline of the diamond onto vellum so that I could write within the lines.

Altenew: A Year In Review Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hi everyone!!! I’m so thrilled to be a part of this Altenew year-end blog hop. Thank you so much, Ashlea Cornell, for sending them over here. 💜 We were asked to choose our top 4 favorite projects from 2019 and honestly, it was quite difficult to narrow it down to 4! I’m so grateful to be one of Altenew’s guest designers this year and because of this, I was able to create a lot of cards and a couple of layouts <3 Here are my top 4 projects:

It was an amazingly creative year filled with so much inspiration from all the talented designers and guest designers. If you start with a product that’s already so beautiful, you get so motivated to create and play with it.

I love this card because of this gorgeous Dainty Blooms cover die. You can also make two cards with one die cut by using both the positive and the negative pieces.

This is what I call my yin and yang cards– one card is elaborate while the other card is clean and simple. ❤️ Here I used the Angelique Motifs stamp and die sets and the Mega Alphabet die to create this monogram card.

This is on my top 4 list because I truly enjoyed painting the Inked rosebud for this card. It was small enough not to get overwhelmed in painting it and somehow, I managed to make it look 3D. 😊 I already had this bouquet design in my mind the minute I saw the stamp set. 🙂

I haven’t done a scrapbook page in ages!!! These are my love letters to my children. Special photos inspire me to document a moment and when I saw these photos of my daughter and her cousin, I knew I had to create a layout using Altenew stamps, dies and stencils as embellishments. The layout was inspired by a PageMaps sketch. I used the Weekend Doodles and Ornate Foliage stamp and die sets, Mandala die and the Broken Chevron Stencil.

This will be my last post for 2019 and I’d like to share with you some cards I recently created for a Christmas card swap of My Little Attic Studio. Here are the cards that I made for my swap mate, Jen.

I used non-traditional colors for this Christmas card. This was the first time I played with the Antique Roses Stamp set and I immediately fell in love with it! The Sting Art Rectangle Die was used to create a window for this card.

5 layers of the Fine Frames Cover Die were used to cover the holes of the string art die and embossed with rose gold embossing powder. The flowers and leaves were stamped using Altenew dye inks.

Here are some CAS cards using the Ornate Foliage stamp set and the Bountiful Branch stamp set. A lot of white space was left for these clean and simple cards and I used a combination of oranges and teal green for this set.

I thought of including some non-Christmas themed cards for the recipient using the Calming Bouquet washi tape. I just love how easy it is to embellish a card or scrapbook page using this washi tape.

Rose gold embossing powder was added to the edge of the monogram letter for some subtle shine. The washi cut-outs were popped up using foam squares to add dimension to the cards.

ALTENEW SEPTEMBER 2019 STAMP/DIE/STENCIL RELEASE BLOG HOP + GIVEAWAY

Welcome to my blog, everyone! I’m so happy to be a part of Altenew’s September 2019 Release Blog Hop with all the talented card designers. ❤️ I’d like to thank the amazing Nathalie DeSousa for sending you over here. 🙂 If you are lost, the master list will be at the end of this post. I’VE BEEN THINKING OF YOU CARD

The Flower Garden is a beautiful stamp set that is so versatile. You can use different coloring materials to add life to the images or you can simply stamp the outline and create subtle, clean, feminine, and elegant cards.

MATERIALS:

For my first card, I stamped the different images of the Flower Garden stamp set all at the same time using the Misti stamping tool on a 4″ x 5.25″ pink cardstock using Versamark Ink then embossed with Altenew crisp white embossing powder. Edges were distressed using the paper distresser. White and pink cardstocks were trimmed to 2.25″ x 4″ panels and vellum was cut to 2.5″ x 4.25″. The Pressed leaf die was used to die cut both the vellum and the pink cardstock then glued on top of the white cardstock. The sentiment was stamped onto the pink CS and embossed using white embossing powder. Foam adhesives were used to create dimension. All the layers were mounted on a 5.5″ x 4.25″ white top folding CS.

U MAKE ME SO HAPPY & U ARE ALL KINDS OF WONDERFUL CARDS

MATERIALS:

The Faceted Stars stamp was stamped onto 2 watercolor papers using Versamark ink then embossed with rose gold embossing powder. Midnight violet and turquoise watercolor brush markers were used to color in certain areas of 1 embossed image. I made sure some triangles were darker than the others for added dimension. Coloring these patterns was so calming and addicting!!! 🙂

The other was left uncolored. The alpha mega die letter U was then used to die cut these embossed panels and the letters were switched for high contrast. Additional letter U was die cut from plain CS and layered to add more dimension. Sentiments were stamped on coordinating watercolored strips and adhered using foam squares.

MISS YOU CARD

MATERIALS:

I have been a big fan and get so much inspiration from amazing artists like Tae Eun and Jaycee Gaspar who both have superb coloring skills. Since alcohol markers are NOT my go-to coloring materials, I wanted to step outside my comfort zone and try them out this time. I first stamped the images onto white cardstock using Antique Linen distress ink for no-line coloring. After 30 minutes of coloring, I was ready to throw it out of the window!!! 😂 I started to lose details of the flower and it looked flat. Then I remembered Jaycee mentioning that he started out with the darkest color to mark where the shadows should be. So I colored using the darkest, then lighest then mid-tone alcohol markers and used the colored pencils after to add more detail. I also realized that you need a TON of patience cause this kind of coloring takes a lot of hours to finish especially for beginners like me. I just have to keep on practising until I’m comfortable with this method of coloring. 😊 Although I’m not too happy with how it turned out, I will still share this card with all of you. I used the gold string washi tape and a strip of gold cardstock to create borders for the card. The circle quilt cover die was used to cut 4 sheets of cardstock and stacked them on top of each other with adhesive to add dimension. The sentiment from the Garden Silhouette was stamped onto white CS using Versamark ink then heat embossed with rose gold embossing powder. Flowers were arranged then Press’n Seal was used to pick up all the diecuts and these were adhered using glue or foam squares.

FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS ETC CHRISTMAS CARDS

MATERIALS:

I wanted to get an early start with my Christmas cards and the Modern Poinsettia made it easy. Because this will be mass-produced, I chose a simple card to replicate and just changed the color of the cardstocks.

The cardstocks were cut to 4″ x 5.25″. The flower was stamped using Versamark Ink then embossed with different embossing powders depending on the color that will match the cardstock. The image was covered with the mask then a second flower was stamped and embossed. Most often than not, there will be some blank space between the 2 stamped images where they overlap so I used the Zig embossing fine pen to draw the lines then embossed it once more. One more flower image was stamped and embossed followed by the sentiment. I couldn’t find my Altenew Fine Frames cover die 😥 so I just used 2 rectangle stax dies to die cut the matching cardstock to create a frame just to add more interest to the card front.

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARD

MATERIALS:

For this last card, I wanted to incorporate a number of Altenew stamps and dies. I used the flowers and leaves from the Happy Pomegranates Stamp set. I stamped these images on watercolor paper using Versamark Ink then embossed with Rose Gold embossing powder. For the flowers, I used the following watercolor brush markers– Midnight violet, Rubellite, Persian Blue and Purple Wine. For the leaves, I used the following: Turquoise, Sea Breeze, Lime, Limeade and Emerald. With these colors, I made a wash for my letter dies. The Layered Snowflakes Stars Cover dies A and B were used to cut out 2 panels. These were adhered onto a blue top folding A2 card.

The leaves and flowers were die cut and arranged at the bottom of the card. Adhesive and foam squares were used to give some dimension. The HAPPY letters were then die cut using the watercolor wash and 4 layers of plain cardstock then adhered on top of each other to create thickness. Happy Birthday sentiment was stamped using Versamark Ink then embossed with Rose Gold embossing powder.

Altenew Educator “Love & Friendship” Blog Hop +Giveaway

Hi everyone! I’m so honored to be joining the 2nd Altenew Educators’ blog hop and this time it’s all about love and friendship. If you are following the hop, then you should have arrived here from the talented Patty Melo. The Altenew Card Blog is hosting this hop so make sure to drop by there as well.

I finished the Altenew Educator’s Certificate Program (AECP) in November of 2018 and it has been one of the most inspiring and fulfilling programs I’ve ever joined. There were quite a number of wonderful classes to choose from. Even if I knew some basic techniques, the talented instructors have shown me other ways to improve and enhance my skills. Their tips and tricks are invaluable. Virginia Lu and Nicole Picadura‘s support and encouragement throughout the course have made the experience very inspiring and memorable. AECP has made me realize that I find so much joy in teaching others! It has also been a wonderful source of new friendships– the Altenew family, the Educator’s group, the students I teach locally, and my online friends from all over the world. Through this program, I’ve been inspired countless times by the creativity of the participants and the generosity of the instructors in sharing their knowledge. I truly believe that crafters are the most generous people on earth!!! 🙂

I love the theme for this blog hop. I treasure the new friends that I’ve made thru AECP and look forward to meeting more people through this wonderful crafting community. My lifelong friends are kind, sincere and most importantly, genuine people. I’ve learned so many life lessons through their experiences and always find comfort and support in their presence.

For this blog hop, I was so inspired to create backgrounds using distress oxide inks and Altenew watercolor brush markers. I suggest you make several backgrounds using the same coloring mediums. Just change the color combination. It’s best to choose analogous colors or colors next to each other on the color wheel. But if you want high contrast, then choose complementary colors (colors opposite each other on the color wheel). Just take note that if these colors mix, you will end up with “mud” which I also love. Below are some of the cards I made for friends and loved ones.

EVERYTHING WILL BE OK  CARD

MATERIALS:

I wanted this card to look like an abstract painting. Arches watercolor paper was cut to 5.5” x 4”. Distress oxide Candied Apple, Ripe Persimmon and Fossilized Amber inks were pressed onto a craft mat and water was spritzed for the colors to react. The paper was then dabbed onto the colors then dried. I went back to add cool colors but making sure that the first layer of colors was dry before adding the next.

The flower image from the Dotted Blooms stamp set was stamped using Versamark Ink then heat embossed using Rose Gold embossing powder. Notice that I used the other second layers of the stamps separately thus creating more flowers that I can paint and use on my card.  The sentiment was stamped on watercolor paper then distress oxide pistachio was added heavily at the bottom of the strip then blended upwards to create an ombre effect. One of the main flower images was mounted using foam tape to add dimension. The sides of the card panel was distressed using the Tonic paper distresser.

WISHING YOU ALL THE JOY YOUR HEART CAN HOLD HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARD

MATERIALS:

I stamped the image from the Geometric Landscape using Versa Mark onto a 5″ x 5.5″ watercolor paper and heat embossed using Altenew pure white crisp embossing powder. Using the wet on wet technique, I colored in the shapes using  Lagoon, Turquoise, Sweet Leaf, Persian Blue and Mountain Mist watercolor brush markers. The edges were distressed using Tim Holtz paper distresser.  Velum sheet was torn to create a frame and the sentiment from  Sincere greetings sentiment was stamped using Versamark and embossed using Rose gold embossing powder.  I chose vellum as a frame/mat for the sentiment so that the background can still be seen.

I painted a light wash using the same colors I used for the background and sprinkled salt to create these wonderful “blooms” and used the 3D dies to create the flowers and vines of the leaves. The leaves remained white so that the flowers will stand out more.  The die cuts were arranged in one corner and adhered using glue and foam squares. The whole panel was adhered to a top folding Neenah Solar white CS with foam tape for added dimension.

YOU ARE STRONGER THAN YOU THINK CARD

MATERIALS:

I wanted to make a card that has a lot of white space this time. Neenah Solar White CS was cut down to 4.25” x 11” and scored at 5.5” to create a top-folding card. The Beveled Square stencil was placed on top of the card front and Altenew embossing paste was spread using a spatula.  While allowing it to dry,  wet on wet technique was used to add some color washes of blues and purples on watercolor paper. Salt was sprinkled while the paper was wet to create some effects.

The Rose Flurries 3D leaves and the Garden Picks 3D flowers and leaves were used to die cut the watercolor papers. A strip was also colored and the sentiment from the Delicate Flower Bed stamp set was embossed using Versamark Ink and Altenew Pure White Crisp embossing powder. The flowers and leaves were assembled and adhered with glue and foam squares.

MATERIALS:

I just love the Teal Shadow Washi Tape because you already have watercolored flowers and leaves instantly!!! <3 This card was pretty simple to create.  Fabriano watercolor paper was cut down to 5.5” x 4.25”. With a blending tool, the background was colored using Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade and Abandoned Coral.  Water was sprayed to create droplets. The Watercolor Stripes cover die was used to cut out the stripes from Neenah Solar White CS.  I stuck the beautiful Teal shadow washi tape on white CS as well then fussy cut the images.  (this washi tape comes with a coordinating die set) These images were then arranged on the left side of a side folding card and adhered using Glossy accents.

Different thickness of foam tape was also used to create dimension. The sentiment from the Handpicked Bouquet was stamped using Versamark Ink then embossed using Altenew pure white crisp embossing powder. Tuck in the sentiment strip under the leaves for added interest.

SENDING LOVE AND HUGS CARD

MATERIALS:

Feeling Dotty stencil was placed on the watercolor paper and Versamark Ink was added to certain areas then embossed with clear embossing powder. Next,  Peacock Feathers and Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide inks were added to the watercolor paper using a distress tool.  Versamark Ink was again added to certain areas of the watercolor paper using the Feathered Leaves and Beveled Square Stencils then heat embossed using clear embossing powder.  Just make sure that the first layer of inks is completely dry. It helps to use an antistatic tool before applying the Versamark ink over the stencils. Water droplets were also added to create more contrast. Lastly, Wilted Violet was added on top revealing the stencil patterns using the emboss resist technique. 

The intricate Altenew Flora Frame Die was die cut 4 times then adhered on top of each other.  This was then pasted on vellum sheet to make it more sturdy. The vellum was cut out to follow the shape of the heart using scissors. The sentiment from the Adore You stamp set was stamped on black cardstock using Versamark Ink then heat embossed using  Pure White Embossing Powder.  The edges of the card front were distressed using the Tonic paper distresser then mounted on a top folding A2 card with foam sheet.

I APPRECIATE YOU AND I’M HERE FOR YOU CARDS

MATERIALS:

I’ve been seeing layouts and card designs with watercolor drippings and have been inspired by Erum Tasnim and May Sukyong Park’s beautiful cards so I thought of trying out the technique.

I started out by choosing 3 colors that will blend well together.  I don’t mind seeing touches of “mud”. This happens when 2 complimentary colors mix.  In fact, for the cool colored card, I purposely mixed blue and orange to get a brownish color to add to the mix.  The 3 Distress Ink Pads were directly swiped onto the watercolor paper.  The colors were sprayed with water and allowed to drip. The paper was held perpendicularly to the table and a watercolor brush was used to help move the pigments downwards. When this was dry, flower and leaf images from the Adore You stamp set were stamped on watercolor paper and embossed using Pure White Embossing powder. The coordinating die cuts were used to cut out the stamped images. The flowers and leaves were arranged temporarily so that I could color them according to the color drippings. Salt was added while the images were wet for added texture.

The images were then adhered using glue or foam squares. The sentiment was stamped using Versamark Ink and embossed using Pure White Embossing powder.  Clear Round Drop embellishments were added to the cool colored card while staples and thread were added to the sentiment for the warm colored card to finish them off. These were then adhered to A2 top and side folding cardstocks.

WISHING THE BEST FOR YOU CARD

MATERIALS:

This is another quick and easy card to create.  I first created a background. This stamp set is so dainty and soft so I wanted to create a card that represents this stamp set. The images were stamped to cover the entire cardstock. For the shadow stamp, Limestone dye ink was used to keep it soft. The Mountain Mist and Volcano Lake were layered using the leaves and stem stamp sets then the Iceberg and Eastern Sky dye inks were used for the flowers.

The letters Y, O and U from the Caps Bold Alpha was used to die cut the word on the lower right side of the card. Additional letters were die cut on plain CS and layered to add dimension. The sentiment from the You Are stamp set was stamped on black cardstock using Versamark ink then heat embossed using Pure White Crisp embossing powder.  The strip was adhered on to the YOU using foam squares. Paper distresser was used on all sides of the panel and this was then glued onto a top folding A2 card base.
